Aquarius

Aquarius of Karlheinz Stockhausen's "Zodiac" from BOULDER PAVEMENT on Vimeo.

In 1974, Stockhausen wrote "Tierkreis – 12 Melodien der Sternzeichen". He had been inspired to do so by a dream in which he saw musical-boxes appearing from the belly of a "bird man". The work consists of a series of musical-box melodies, one for each of the signs of the Zodiac.

Fascinating and theatrical little film. I assume you have heard about the Helicopter String quartet being performed in Birmingham ith real helicopters. http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/interactive/2012/aug/22/karlheinz-stockhausen-helicopter-string-quartet-watch-live

Have you ever had anything productive originate in a dream? I've often woken with a melody in my head that apparently featured in my dream soundtrack, but I'm usually half-suspicious that my subconscious has ripped it off.

Isn't it just a mash up of "Speed bonny boat like a bird on the wing, over the sea to Skye"?
Not syre what I think of it yet. Maybe I'll dream about it and all the songs will sound as per usual.....

Thanks for these comments, everyone.

JW: Yes, I did hear. The tickets were sold out but I did watch the stream on the internet.

hyperCRYPTICal: Tierkreis is Karlheinz at his fluffiest. I'd steer clear of him. You should hear him at his spikiest! :)

WG: "Scorpion" is on Youtube, here:

GOAT: Yes. But then it's said it's impossible to whistle a tune that hasn't been whistled before.

RF: There is a bit of that, isn't there? But then Rachmaninov was mortified when UK audiences started to laugh at the slow movement of his 4th Piano Concerto. It was more or less the same as Three Blind Mice.
