Words and Music

The TFE project this week was to listen to a piece of music and write about it. I put my chosen piece on the record player the other day, full blast, immersed myself and... Well, this is what I came up with:

I forgot to ask people to name the music too. What is it? Stockhausen? Or strawberry fields? I don't know but what a great result.Visually striking, startlingly different.Would make fantastic posters on the London Underground or Bus shelters etc.Well done Dom ,thanks for this.

go ahead, make 'em guess what music; we'll all have a different thing in mind

Beautifully done--sitar & viola & hurdy gurdy: nice! I can see TFE's VU guess, both from the possible lyric & the fact Cale played viola, but don't recall them using sitar.

Concrete! And I like it!
Hints of the Velvet Underground, Lou Reed and Petula make a mental cityscape for me that feels like home. Nice one. In fact, really nice one.

Thanks for these comments. Pleased you all liked it.

TFE: I tend to agree with NanU on this - keep 'em guessing... :)

WG: It would make an interesting song, but I probably won't get round to it. I might try making a series of these, based on different music.

NanU: I think you're probably right :)

JH: VU didn't use a sitar to my knowledge, but they do sound almost like one in some of their best tracks.

RF: Do you? Can't say I've ever tried it :)

Titus: I never thought of Petula. Interesting how what we make has different resonances in the minds of other people.

long as it's a fake fur coat, ahem, says the meat eater. Tis a lovely selection of thoughts, sparkly in fact.

I was hoping that, being late to the party, I would find out what piece of music inspired your poem - but no. And I'm not even going to try. If it wasn't George Harrison, I'm at a loss. Whatever inspired it, I like it.

It reminds me of a kind of grafitti. I love that word hurdy-gurdy. I always have. In a fur coat? Lots of great things in my head right now. Thanks, Dominic.

coincidentally i've been listening to nico this week. can;t get enough of that voice.

Thanks for these comments everyone. Fake fur, definitely. Sorry TFE, I'm afraid there are no prizes as such - only "A"s for effort:)

I saw Nico once - at the Hammersmith Odeon, I think. Just her, onstage, with her harmonium, as I remember it.

A bit of useless but fascinating information John Cooper Clarke lived with Nico for a while.Couldn't believe it when I heard it.

The word verification is spookily
